Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to our most commonly asked questions. We hope you find the answers useful.
Please contact us if you have any furthur questions. Thank you!

Q: "Are your meetings open to the public, and are there membership dues?"

A: We encourage men, women, and children to attend our meetings so that we may fulfill our mission statement. There are no memberships, dues, or officers. We do require reservations so that we can have sufficient meal service and seating".

Q: "How long do your meetings last?"

A: Although the doors open before 5:00 pm and we have many people arriving early to secure their choice of tables, we actually bring the meeting to order at 6:30 and begin the buffet line dinner service. In respect for those who must work the next day, and especially those who commute from as far as 100 miles away to our meetings, we end at 9:00 pm.

Q: "How do you locate and choose your guest speakers?"

A: We are military history buffs and keep our eyes and ears open for potential guests, including feature articles in newspapers, and from referrals of guests and avid attenders. We pre-screen every potential speaker to make his story is true and that he can carry the meeting.

Q: "Before the speaker begins, you show a video. Why?"

A: We draw from our vast collection of WW2, Korea, and Vietnam War documentary videos that are relevant to the speaker's topic. The majority of our attenders were born during or after WW2, for example, so we want to prepare the audience by giving them 15-20 minutes of background information.

Q: "Twenty dollars seems like a lot of money for the dinner meeting. How do you justify the price?"

A: In addition to the cost of the buffet, currently provided by Ferrante's Grafton, we pay rent to the Rose-Harms American Legion Post. On several occasions we must pay for the speaker's travel expenses, including overnight at the Baymont Hotel. What's left covers the cost of printing and mailing our newsletter to those folks who are not on line, and for the souvenir placemats, and for the time and expense of locating and screening potential speakers. We do offer you the opportunity to come just to hear our guest speaker (please arrive about 7:15 pm) for $8.00 per person.

Q: "How long will you continue this organization?"

A: We are thankful for the support of the community these past four years, and will continue to operate as long we meet the needs of our audience, as evidenced by their attendance.
